Optimal Placement and Sizing of D-STATCOM in Radial and Meshed Distribution Networks Using a Discrete-Continuous Version of the Genetic Algorithm

In this paper, we propose a new discrete-continuous codification of the Chu–Beasley genetic algorithm to address optimal placement and sizing problem distribution static compensators (D-STATCOM) in electrical grids. The discrete part determines nodes where D-STATCOM will be installed. continuous regulates their sizes. objective function considered study is minimization annual operative costs regarding energy losses installation investments D-STATCOM. This subject classical power balance constraints devices’ capabilities. proposed version solves mixed-integer non-linear programming model that generates. Numerical validations 33 test feeder with radial meshed configurations show approach effectively minimizes operating grid. addition, GAMS software compares results optimization method, which allows demonstrating its efficiency robustness.
